SST. SOPHIA This ancient basílica, built by Constantine the Creat, ¡n
the 4th century and reconstructed by Justinian ¡n the 6th century, ¡s one of
the architectural marvels of all time
SULTANAHMET IMPERIAL MOSQUE
Across from St. Sophia built in the 17th century by the architect Mehmet,
this ¡s known as the BLUE MOSQUE because of its magnificent interior decoration
of blue Iznik tiles.
HIPPODROME The scene of ancient chariot races, the ancient Hippodrome,
with its four monuments; the GERMAN FOUNTAIN OF W1LHELM II, the OBELISK
OF THEODOSIUS, the bronze SERPENTINE COLUMN and the COLUMN OF
CONSTANTINE.

PALACE The great palace of the Ottoman sultans from the 15th to the
19th centuries, housing an exquisite collection of crystal, silver and Chínese
porcelain; robes worn by the sultans and their families; miniatures, the Holy
Mantle; CHAMBER OF SACRED RELICS.

SÜLEYMANÍYE MOSQUE The mosque of Süleyman the Magnificent was
built between 1550 and 1557 bythefamous architect Sinan whose wish was surpass
the builders of St. Sophia. Conspicuous because of its great size, ¡t is
emphasized by the four minarets rising from each córner of the courtyard.
IMPORTANT NOTICE During the renovation of the Süleymaniye Mosque,
Rüstempasa Mosque will be visited.

Crusade in 1204, the second by the cannons and troops of Sultán Mehmet
the Conqueror in 1453.
DRIVE BY BUS TO GOLDEN HORN As a natural and extremely secure harbor,
the Colden Horn has played an important role ¡n the development of Istanbul.
The ¡nlet separates the European shore into two. It ¡s approximately 8 km long,
and the widest part ¡s the entrance from the Bosphorus. Two streams drain into
this inlet at its far end.
SPICE BAZAAR (ECYPTIAN BAZAAR) The air here is filled with the enticing
aromas of cinnamon, caraway, saffron, mint, thyme and every other conceivable
